Mabon 2025 | Chant, Butter Blessing, and Feast

Five people in festive attire stand smiling in front of a cosmic-themed backdrop adorned with autumn leaves. Vibrant and joyful scene.

On Sunday, September 21st, the Divine Warrior Witches gathered at Crescent Moon Gifts in Tacoma to honor Mabon, the sacred festival of the Autumnal Equinox. Together, we celebrated the bounty of the season, blessed one another with butter offerings crafted by hand, and released what no longer serves us as we step into the darker half of the year.

This year’s ritual centered on communal practices: a moving chant accompanied by autumnal dance, a magical butter-blessing ceremony, and a shared Mabon feast inspired by the rich harvest foods. With song, herbs, gratitude, and offerings passed from hand to hand, the evening evoked the warmth and wonder of this threshold season.

SO BELOW | Mabon

Presented by High Priestess Serenity

As the Wheel turns from summer to autumn, we arrive at the Autumnal Equinox, a moment of perfect balance when day and night share equal time. This sabbat heralds the season of turning leaves, crisp air, and an abundance of harvest gifts.

At Mabon, we pause to recognize the great shift around us. The grass begins to brown, the leaves fade from deep summer green into gold and amber, and the evenings cool as the sun descends earlier each day. Our soil hardens, and the season of planting and gathering draws to a close. Yet what an abundance remains to be celebrated!

Mabon is a sabbat of gratitude, abundant with apples and grains, herbs and vegetables, roots and fruit. From pumpkins to plums, garlic to grapes, corn to carrots, we delight in the rich variety of nourishment the Earth still provides. It is a festival of balance, blessing, and thanksgiving to the Goddess and God for the season’s bounty.

CRYSTALS | Pink Opal

Presented by Ritual Assistants Rowan and Jasper

Pink stones and a larger red-orange rock are arranged on a wooden surface, creating a warm, earthy mood.

Pink Opal, our featured Mabon stone, embodies gentle emotional healing perfectly suited for the introspective season ahea

d. This soft, pastel gemstone, from the Andean highlands of Peru, carries a soothing, heart-centered energy that eases grief, softens anxiety, and nurtures self-love.

Rowan shared the geological wonders of Pink Opal: a hydrated form of silica with a waxy luster, formed in volcanic environments, and colored by organic compounds called quinones. Its delicate structure and water content require care, making it a stone as sensitive as the emotions it helps to heal.

Jasper expanded on its metaphysical gifts: Pink Opal opens the heart chakra, encouraging compassion, emotional balance, and the gentle release of old wounds. It aligns beautifully with autumn’s themes of letting go and preparing for the stillness ahead. Held during meditation or carried throughout the season, Pink Opal supports introspection, self-worth, and emotional renewal—perfect for the energy of Mabon.

THE RITUAL

by High Priestess Serenity

Our Mabon ritual unfolded through three sacred workings—each honoring the season’s gifts of release, blessing, and nourishment.

We began with a ritual of movement and chant. Under Starlit Skies by Cawnawyn Mor filled the room as practitioners spun gently with autumn’s energy, speaking aloud the word they had chosen to release. As leaves fall from trees, so too did our community let go, symbolically showered with falling ribbons representing their sacred shedding.

Next came the Butter Blend Blessing. Practitioners crafted magical whipped butter infused with intention and herbs, thyme for courage, rosemary for remembrance, pepper and garlic for vitality and grounding, salt for cleansing, and basil for abundance. Through a call-and-response blessi

ng, every ingredient was empowered. And in a beautiful act of trust and community, each practitioner gifted their blessed butter to someone else, honoring the spirit of generosity at the heart of this sabbat.

Finally, we gathered for the Mabon Feast—a joyful potluck of seasonal dishes prepared by our practitioners. Gratitude was spoken, plates were filled, and the warmth of community carried us deep into the evening.
